What is Community Supported Agriculture?

Our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Program is an easy way for you to incorporate a variety of fresh, organic fruits, vegetables, and herbs into your diet and support your local farmers. Paired with the abundant seasonal produce grown by our farms, our CSA includes additional food items from local farms and food businesses, such as honey, cheese, bread, fruit, and more. From May through October, our CSA includes over 35 seasonal crop varieties.

Continually, our CSA can be tailored to accommodate varying family sizes, food preferences, income levels, and payment methods. You can even compost your CSA food scraps with us!

All of the produce you receive through our CSA program is grown organically and harvested within 24 hours of being picked up. This means the food you receive from us is as fresh and nutritionally dense as possible.

Thanks to the support of our CSA members, we are able to donate up to 50% of our produce to the community each year.

Additionally, if you are interested in supporting our community members with limited financial resources and further contributing to our healthy food access programs, you have two options:
1. Select a Pay It Forward CSA membership: This option allows you to purchase a CSA membership for your household and also pay an extra cost to provide greater support to our healthy food access programs.
2. Donate a CSA membership on our Donate pageThis option allows you to cover the cost of a CSA subscription for community members with limited financial resources without purchasing a CSA membership for your household.

We hope you'll join us!

CSA Membership

Our CSA program is Open for Registration!

With each CSA share (bag), you can expect between 7 to 10 food items to be available. The CSA share (bag) cost ranges from $13.06 - $36 depending on your customization. Every CSA member is able to customize their CSA subscription in the following ways:

1. Pick Up Frequency: Weekly or Every Other Week
2. Produce Selection: When you pick up your share, you select the food items you do and do not want to include, based on what’s seasonally available at the farm at that time.
3. Share Size: Standard (feeds 1-2 people) or Large (feeds 3-4 people)
4. Payment Frequency: One-time or Monthly payment
5. Available Add-Ons: T-Shirt, Tote Bags, and Compost Service

While our CSA program is open to any resident who lives in the Chicagoland area, we aim to primarily serve residents who live closer to our farms. With that in mind, we do not offer any delivery options.

Before registering, please review the information below regarding our CSA pick up locations.
1. Saint James Community Farm: 2936 South Wabash Avenue, Chicago, IL 60616
2. It Takes a Village Community Farm: 2500 223rd Street, Sauk Village, IL 60411

If you are interested in learning more about other CSA programs in the area that offer delivery options or are closer to your home, please reach out to Jess Tang at jess@justrootschicago.org or check out this article with a great list of CSA’s in the area.

To begin the registration process, click on the appropriate link below, based on the farm nearest to you.

2. Donate a CSA membership on our Donate page: This option allows you to cover the cost of a CSA subscription for community members with limited financial resources without purchasing a CSA membership for your household.

We look forward to providing you with the freshest and most nutritionally dense vegetables, fruits, and herbs from our farms!

What We Grow

We grow over 35 varieties of vegetables, fruits, and herbs. For most types of crops, we include variations, such as golden and red beets and lacinato (also known as "dino") and curly kale. These crops can come in different colors, shapes, and sizes and can offer varying nutritional benefits and tasty meal options, depending on it.

The following list does not include everything we grow or when we will harvest it. We encourage you to try all of the varieties we offer and enjoy the seasonality of local, sustainably grown produce with us!
