Growing Young Leaders

Our Growing Young Leaders Program is training the next generation of food justice leaders in southern Cook County. The program provides summer employment and leadership development for south suburban youth between the ages of 16-24.

In addition to developing sustainable urban agriculture skills, participants receive training in cooking and nutrition, good money management, job readiness, and leadership practices.

The program supports youth in becoming knowledgeable, hardworking, and well-rounded leaders in their community.

Program Overview

Our 2023 program served six south suburban youth and the majority of them are pursuing jobs or continuing education in agriculture, food systems, or environmental work.

We are excited for the 2024 cohort to join us at It Takes a Village Community Farm for 10 weeks this summer!

Participants support farm operations and practice the tenets of sustainable growing. They also enjoy the fruits of their labor and provide thousands of lbs of food to the community each year.
