COMMUNITY SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE  JOIN OUR CSA

OUR MISSION

Just Roots empowers communities to develop access to local, sustainably grown food.
WE CARRY OUT OUR MISSION THROUGH:

EDUCATION

We facilitate on-site educational programming for individiuals and groups interested in sustainable urban agriculture and local food systems.

We currently offer a free 8-week program that meets once a week (either Friday or Saturday mornings). If you’re interested in participating in our next session, fill out this form or contact us at info@justrootschicago.org.

First Session: May 6-June 24th

Second Session: August 5-September 23rd

SUSTAINABLE
FARMING

We operate a 1/4 acre farm on Chicago’s south side and use organic practices to grow culturally relevant fruits and vegetables for the local community. In 2018, 50% of our produce went to local food pantries, while the other 50% was sold to local farmers markets and households through our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. COMMUNITY
Building

Each farm that we operate builds community through shared gathering space, community events, and good food!

OUR STORY

Just Roots Chicago was created in the Fall of 2017 when co-founders Sabrina Poulin and Sean Ruane began to see how large groups of people were unable to access local, sustainably grown produce because of socioeconomic, educational, and cultural barriers. They began to think critically about ways they could work together to reduce barriers and create pathways for people of all backgrounds to access food that’s good for their family, their community, and the environment.

After one year of operation as a non-profit urban farm on Chicago’s south side, Just Roots distributed over 4,000 lbs of local, sustainably grown produce and provided free educational programming to over 300 student and adult learners.
