COMMUNITY SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE  JOIN OUR CSA

OUR MISSION

Just Roots empowers communities to develop access to local, sustainably grown food.
WE CARRY OUT OUR MISSION THROUGH:

EDUCATION

We facilitate on-site educational programming for individuals and groups interested in sustainable urban agriculture and local food systems.

Our free 6-week Sustainable Gardening Course is now open for registration. The course takes place on Saturdays at 9 am from May 23 through June 27 at the Legends Farm —4500 S. Federal St.

Click here to register for this year’s 6-week course.

SUSTAINABLE
FARMING

We operate a 1/4 acre farm on Chicago’s south side and use organic practices to grow culturally relevant fruits and vegetables for the local community. In 2018, 50% of our produce went to local food pantries, while the other 50% was sold to local farmers markets and households through our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. COMMUNITY
Building

Each farm that we operate builds community through shared gathering space, community events, and good food!

OUR STORY

Just Roots Chicago began its journey in the Fall of 2017. Co-founders Sabrina and Sean began to recognize how many Chicago communities had limited access to local, sustainably grown produce because of a variety of barriers. They began to think critically about ways they could work together to empower people and communities to develop access to local, sustainably grown food.

After two years of operation, Just Roots has grown over 14,000 lbs of produce and provided educational programming to over 750 student and adult learners at their farm at 45th + Federal. This spring, Just Roots is partnering with the Saint James Food Pantry to build out a new community farm at 29th and Wabash.
