OUR MISSION

We work in collaboration with communities to develop access to local, sustainably grown food.

We carry out our mission through three core pillars:

EDUCATION

We facilitate on-site educational programming for individuals and groups interested in sustainable urban agriculture and local food systems.

Fill out this form to sign up for updates and information.

SUSTAINABLE

FARMING

In partnership with community organizations, we operate sustainable urban farms in Chicago’s south side and south suburbs , using organic practices to grow culturally relevant fruits and vegetables with and for our community.

50% of the food we grow is donated, while  the other 50% is sold directly to Chicagoans through our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, weekly farm stand, farmers markets, and through partnerships with local health clinics.

COMMUNITY
Building

Each farm that we operate builds community through shared gathering space, community events, and good food!

Over the last four years, we have produced over 40,000 pounds of produce, with 50% going to local food pantries and the other 50% sold to Chicagoans through our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program and weekly farm stand. Interested in learning more about our CSA program? Click here

OUR STORY

Just Roots began in the Fall of 2017, when the co-founders began to work together with their community to develop and expand access to sustainably grown food. In 2020, during the height of the pandemic, Just Roots partnered with Saint James Catholic Church & Food Pantry to convert a vacant lot into the Saint James Community Farm, a 1/2 acre fruit and vegetable farm located on Chicago’s south side.

In 2021, we partnered with Grace United Church of Christ and Good Vibes to establish It Takes A Village Community Farm, a 3 acre farm located in Sauk Village, IL.
