Saint James Community Farm
After three years of working to advance food sovereignty at the Legends South farm, we have partnered with Saint James Catholic Church to build an 18,000 sq. ft. community farm at 29th and Wabash. The Saint James Community Farm will strengthen sustainable food production in Bronzeville by empowering community members to grow their own food , engage in dynamic, hands on educational programming, and build community in the process.
Learn, Grow, & Engage
Over 10,000 lb. of produce will be harvested annually, all of which will go directly back to the community through an affordable community-supported agriculture program, weekly farm stand, and weekly donations to food pantries. Our educational programming empowers community members to grow their own food, while incorporating culturally relevant produce into their diet. The farm also serves as a healing environment for people to learn, grow and engage with one another.
Community building has always been one of our three core pillars. We work closely with our partners to ensure that our farms meet the needs of the community and empower residents to thrive.
"I love the holistic vision and practice of Just Roots — cultivating community, responding to food insecurity, sustaining the project with CSA subscriptions.... and bringing joy to so many in the process."
